Committee Descriptions

We love volunteers and here are ways to get involved! Below you will find a list of the PTO committees. Please consider joining a committee (or two) and share your talents. It is so appreciated!

5TH GRADE COMMITTEE – Do you have a 5th grader?  Help plan all of the extra fun activities that are for 5th graders ONLY!  These activities may include a sports night and color run, celebration day, and awards night.  Help the 5th graders celebrate their very last year of elementary school!

BASKET RAFFLE – The spring family event includes themed baskets full of goodies, supplies, gift cards, and other fun items to be raffled off.  This committee would help organize sign-up lists full of possible basket donations for each grade level, and help put together the baskets if needed.

BINGO NIGHT – This committee will work together with the PTO board to coordinate planning, promoting, and running all activities included in BINGO night (Thursday, September 26).  Activities and volunteers need to be organized as well.

BOOSTERTHON – This donation drive is DCE's biggest fundraiser of the year and will kick-off on Tuesday, February 18. We need volunteers to assist the entire morning during the Fun Run (February 2020).

BOX TOPS –  This team is responsible for organizing, counting, and sending in any physical Box Tops that are sent in for this kickback program. Contests and incentives may happen during the year too. 

BULLETIN BOARDS – Love searching for ideas on Pinterest? This is the perfect way to put those creative ideas to work! Each quarter, or before a big event, one bulletin board in the Oasis and one bulletin board in the hallway need to be updated. The PTO closet has rolls of background paper, letter cut-outs, and border to get you started.

DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE – This committee will work together with the PTO board to coordinate planning (theme, food, activities), social media/website images, and volunteers so that all of our dads and daughters will have the best night!  Committee chairs must be in attendance during set-up, the dance, and clean-up. (tentatively planned for April 2020)

EXPLORER ROCK – The painting schedule of the Explorer Rock needs to be organized and have all available dates listed in a spreadsheet over the summer.  Once reservations begin coming in, a spreadsheet of dates and names needs to be created.  This committee is also in charge of painting the rock prior to the first orientation and the last day of school.

FENCEThis committee will decorate the fence during special events to advertise for the PTO.  They will complete the decorating in a timely manner prior to an event (once requested) and take down the decorations following the event. 

MOTHER SON GLOW NIGHT – This committee will work together with the PTO board to coordinate planning (glow theme, food, activities), social media/website images, and volunteers so that all of our moms and sons will have the best night!  Committee chairs must be in attendance during set-up, the dance, and clean-up. (Friday, November 5)

SCHOOL SUPPLIES TOOLBOXES – This team works to organize school supplies for purchase through the toolbox company website during the spring and into the summer.  When the toolboxes arrive at the end of the summer, sorting and delivering toolkits to classrooms will need to be scheduled and completed.

SPIRIT PATROL – On spirit days (2nd & 4th Fridays of the month), students who wear DCE shirts receive prizes! The Spirit Patrol starts handing out prizes promptly at 8:00am as the kids start coming into the school.

SPIRIT STICKS –  Students love Spirit Sticks! Help organize and keep up with inventory of Spirit Sticks, as well as promote and set up special sales. This committee will set-up and attend sales during the school year as well as create social media/website images and order forms (if needed).

SPIRIT WEAR – Committee members may be asked to help out at orientation (Friday, August 9) with spirit wear sales as well as during the beginning of the school year to help distribute any online orders to students.

SPACE NIGHT – This committee will work together with the PTO board to coordinate planning (space theme, food, activities), social media/website images, and volunteers so that all of our families can enjoy this educational, fun night!  Committee chairs must be in attendance during set-up, the event, and clean-up. (Friday, February 7)

TEACHER APPRECIATION – This committee is responsible for planning and implementing ideas, food, and activities that show our appreciation to the teachers and staff throughout the year.  Helping and being present when needed during teacher appreciation week in May is also required.  Collecting gift card donations from local businesses may be part of this committee depending on need.
